The lightning storm of June 20, 2008 ignited several wildfires in the Salmon River watershed. These burned with varied intensity until the rains in October but there could be still be places smoldering as of November 25th. Good structure protection was in place and no homes were lost on the Salmon River.
The Ukonom Complex extended through much of the north and western portions of the Salmon River watershed and connected to the Panther Fire and Siskiyou Complex to the north.

Much of the Ukonom Complex is located within the Marble Mountain Wilderness Area and adjacent roadless areas. Initial ignition points were near Merrill Mountain, Black Mountain, Medicine Mountain, Black Mountain, Portuguese Creek, and Crapo Mountain.
Bear Wallow Complex
The fire which burned in the Caribou Lake area in the high country of the South Fork Salmon Trinity Alps) and the Anthony Milne Fire was in the headwaters of Wooley Creek.

The fires of the Gould Complex burned in Gould Gulch near Cecilville. These fires were contained on July 2.
The SRRC is assisted the US Forest Service in assessing the fires, GIS mapping, supporting the Salmon River Fire Safe Council and by providing the fire management teams with valuable information and data about fire history in the area. The SRRC is worked as a community liason to disseminate factual information about the fire to the local community.
